| Mike and I are working on developing a young adult ministry at Painesville Baptist now. It is tough going! We are running into commitment issues. The group will say they will be there but then only a couple will show up. We have a great study for Fall called “Chasing the Lion” about a man in the Bible named Benaiah. He is only mentioned a few times in the whole Bible. He was one of David’s mighty men. His qualifications . . . There was also Benaiah son of Jehoiada, a valiant warrior from Kabzeel. He did many heroic deeds, which included killing two champions of Moab. Another time, on a snowy day, he chased a lion down into a pit and killed it. Once, armed only with a club, he killed a great Egyptian warrior who was armed with a spear. Benaiah wrenched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand and killed him with it. Deeds like these made Benaiah as famous as the three mightiest warriors. He was more honored than the other members of the Thirty, though he was not one of the Three. And David made him captain of his bodyguard. (2 Samuel 20) It’s about chasing your dreams. Going after the things you want to do. The author of the study says that the things you will most regret at the end of your life are not the things that you DID but the things you DID NOT DO. How true is that? There is the story of Ted Leonsis owner of the Washington Capitals. He made his fortune as an executive at AOL. Back at age 25 Ted was on an airplane that had lost control of its wing flaps. As the flight attendants prepaired for a crash landing Ted began to thinking about what he would do if he survived. He said, “If I didn’t die, I’d play offense for the rest of my life.” After survival he made a list of 101 things he wanted to do before he died. Today he has finished 74 of those things. Including, Falling and love and get married; create the worlds largest media company; own a jet; Own a sports Franchise; Invent a board game; and hold elective office. The study asks us to make 10 such goals. Mike and I had similar lists and came up with quite a few. Thought I’d list some of them here to look back on… It’s really a list of the names of Lions I’m chasing after! | Is anyone else worried about the economy or is it just me? I know we are not supposed to talk about politics and religion at work but I work in a coffee/bagel/"panini's" shop and people come in and talk about everything from sports to weather to politics and even religion. [I had a funny conversation last week about Joel Osteen! Let me just start by saying: a Lutheran, a catholic, and a Baptist were all in a bagel shop...] So the other day I decided to ask my new General Manager how she thought the company was doing. She proceeded to tell me that its fine the economy is not affecting us at all. Then, later in the day she tells me something I already know, being the closing manager who does all the paper work, "We have only been short in sales about one or two HUNDRED dollars a DAY" --- AND "our Supplier in Cleveland will be shutting down in the next month so we need to watch what we order." Soon we will order from the Pittsburgh one that is over 3 hours away. Hmm.. And our little bagel shop is doing fine?~! That conversation went well.... riiight. I work with some wonderfully-funny, stuck-in-their-ways, older women. Two are already getting what should be social security but it's social insecurity checks to them. I thought hey, "let me see how they are doing?" "Oh, it's fine", I'm told as they gripe about gas prices and tell me that the Walgreen’s down by the lake has the best price for milk and you can use a coupon to save on eggs at the grocery on lakeshore and gas prices at Wal-Mart are the best by far - especially if you have one of those gift cards to save 3 cents a gallon! Holy cow! So I tell them about Angel Food and I believe they will be ordering next month! My other job is at the Christian book store. Quite a different feel. What hope we have that God our Father will provide and take care of us! AMEN. We are promoting money saving books and sales on end time prophecy has gone up just in the 4 or 5 months I've been there. However all the talk of "the end is here" cracks me up-- Do you think Obama is the anti-Christ? Are you watching what's happening to Israel over there? The Bible says that it will take loads of money to buy wheat; can't you see it's happening in America? -- Yes, Yes, Yes. I've been watching it and yeah, it could be the last days but that's for God to decide not me. I am ready and I want to talk about it - but America is so brain-washed into thinking that we are going to be okay... We are America. Chanting, U.S.A.! U.S.A.! Believing that nothing will happen to us. Nothing?!? Come on. Tell me, are people so fooled that they are not talking about it? Or are they scared to face reality that times are going to be tough? My grocery bill for two of us [and a dog] has gone up around 15-20% since we were first married. [Thank You Angel Food for helping with that!] Mike might be cut hours or lose his job, and I was told by both my employers that they will be cutting hours in March. A lady in my Sunday school class got a 10% pay cut - another's husband lost his job. But everyone I talk to is fine - and they don't want to talk about what to do to get ready or how to save money. So maybe it's time for me to speak up. I like what Glenn Beck found, the people who are survivors are the ones that think about what to do "worst case scenario". The time is now people! The time is now. | | |
| I've been really thinking about going back to school. I keep wondering what my life would be like if I really did what I origionally wanted to do. Become a teacher. I don't know why but I just can't get it out of my head. I just don't know if we can afford it. And I have no idea where to start. I have no idea what I would teach age or subject. I just want to do it. | | |
